On September 8, 2026, the Airports Council International Asia-Pacific and Middle East (ACI APAC & MID) officially released its 2025 Air Connectivity Index Report. In it, Noi Bai International Airport (NIA), together with two other major ACV-operated airports, Tan Son Nhat and Da Nang, was honored among the airports with the most outstanding connectivity improvement in the region.
ACI's Air Connectivity Index is a reputable, passenger-centric analytical tool that evaluates the connectivity level of 315 airports in the region based on network size and frequency, the economic significance of destinations, as well as the quality and efficiency of connections (number of stops, aircraft type, airline alliances, etc.).
A strong mark from Vietnam's airport system
According to ACI's 2025 report, the Asia-Pacific aviation network recorded connectivity growth of 10%. Notably, Vietnam's airport system left a strong mark on the international aviation map, with 3 representatives ranking among the leading airports for the fastest connectivity improvement within their respective size segments:
- 25–40 million passengers/year segment: Noi Bai International Airport and Tan Son Nhat International Airport were honored as the airports with the most outstanding connectivity improvement.
- 5–15 million passengers/year segment: Da Nang International Airport ranked among the top airports for improvement.
This impressive rise in the Air Connectivity Index brings practical value to passengers. Specifically, passengers departing from or traveling to Noi Bai will have more direct flight options, a more diverse network of international destinations, and optimized connection times.
This is a well-deserved result of the continuous efforts of Noi Bai International Airport in particular, and of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) in general, in closely coordinating with airlines and state management agencies to promote the opening and resumption of a series of international routes following the pandemic.
Shifting toward a sustainable growth trajectory
ACI's report also indicates that the Asia-Pacific aviation industry is gradually shifting from a post-pandemic recovery boom toward a longer-term and more sustainable growth trajectory. Intra-regional passenger traffic currently accounts for 91% of total departing passenger volume, up 5% compared to 2019. Notably, intercontinental traffic originating from the region has also exceeded pre-pandemic levels by 12%.
